Back to Basics
Back to Basics Programme was implemented, with support from Aide et Action, in 112 primary schools under Benipatti block of Madhubani district. The programme was implemented with the children of class 2nd to 5th to achieve quality education and so that they could achieve competency in 3-Rs ie Read, Write and Arithmatic with support from other stakeholders like teachers, parents, community, People’s representatives and government officials.
The whole program was community based with strong linkage with panchayat institutions and schools. So at one side community people, especially, women were organised and mobilised to raise voices in support of quality education, other side established institutions were advocated to be sensitive towards children and their education.
The base of program was CCA (Children Competency Assesment) by which nearly 10,000 children were assessed for their competency in basic reading, writing and arithmatic calculation. Based on that each child was targated in individual way to support him in gaining the desired competency in 3Rs. Parents were motivated to help child in this process and send them schools regularly. The institutions formed by the project like: Mata Committee, Bal Sabha had strengthened the internal as well as the external process of school. This is still visible in the project area with increased retention of children in school.
Comprehansive Plan for Education was prepared by community with the consultation of Abhigyan Disha, school teachers, students, PRI, SMC and community persons to accelerate the school development process as per the norms of RTE.
